Registered Student Organizations

All programs and activities are open to all without restriction or preference based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, national origin or other protected personal identity. 

The Alliance of Queer & Allied Students (AQAS) is one of the oldest LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy student organizations in the United States, committed to making MSU a safer place for all through advocacy and social events! Alliance is one of the groups that forms the Council of Advocacy for Marginalized Students (CAMS) under the student government of MSU, the Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU).  The Alliance receives funding through ASMSU allocations. We are a safe space supports maintenance of equality between all students on the basis of gender expression, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation. If you are interested in participating in the Alliance be sure to join any of our socials for information on events and meetings to come! Involve@state will also have events that we are hosting posted on our organization page. 

A-Spectrum: A safe meeting place celebrating asexual,aromantic, and agender identities as well as microlabels. The organization offers a space to discuss asexuality, aromanticism and other gender and sexuality topics, and promote awareness and education about asexuality and aromanticism. 

TransAction seeks to build a sense of community that celebrates MSU students who are transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming, as well as to defend their rights and advocate for their specific social, educational, and cultural needs. These students often face harassment, hostility, and discrimination in every area of their lives, including when interacting with the university. A supportive network will help combat the transphobia, cissexism, transmisogyny, and isolation that these students frequently experience. Regular meetings are held weekly in collaboration with Transcend and tend to be focused on community building with activities such as painting, presentation night, self-care, board game night, and more! Larger scale events vary from year to year but usually take place throughout the semester. Office hours are held at least once per week and as e-board availability allows, providing access to another community space with free gender affirming materials, snacks, the transform closet, and more.  

oSTEM at MSU is a chapter of “Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Inc.” (oSTEM), a 501(c)(3) national non-profit professional association for LGBTQIA2S+ people in STEM.

We envision a world where LGBTQ+ people in the STEM community are empowered to achieve success in a safe and supportive environment that celebrates their diversity and unique contributions. 

oSTEM empowers LGBTQ+ people in STEM to succeed personally, academically, and professionally by cultivating environments and communities that nurture innovation, leadership, and advocacy. 

We support connections between undergraduate students, graduate students, and MSU faculty working and studying in STEM who are members of the queer and LGBTQIA2S+ community. 

Planned Parenthood Generation Action (PPGA MSU) is a student organization that promotes the continued support of Planned Parenthood and increases awareness of and advocacy for sexual health and education. Our members work to promote sexual wellness, gender equity, and reproductive justice in a positive way both on Michigan State University’s campus and in the Greater Lansing area. 

QT-Grad is an organization which strives to connect queer and trans graduate students from all areas of campus to facilitate community building, mentorship, and professional development.

Diversity in Gaming: a social club to bring together people who are passionate about the relation between diversity and games, from a professional and consumer perspective. 

Black Spectrum Collective: A newly formed campus organization, Black Spectrum Collective aims to create a safe and affirming space for Black LGTBQ+ students and allied on campus, through community, advocacy, education, and empowerment.

Student Organizations Affiliated with Schools and Colleges

LGBT & Allies in Medicine at MSUCOM advocates for equality and acknowledging diversity in the medical community. To achieve this equality and recognition we will educate ourselves and our colleagues in LGBTQ+ issues as they relate to everyday life and the practice of medicine using expertise from the LGBTQ+ community and campus resources. Our goal is to assist in the development of competent physicians willing to serve and treat all people to the best of their ability. We welcome intersectionality, inclusivity and diversity for all to share and converse. Our club's mission is to educate and spread awareness about LGBT+ issues and disparities in medicine. Allies and those of the LGBT+ community are part of this mission. 

LGBTQ+ Allies Student Nurses Association: The mission of the LGBTQ+ Allies Student Nurses Association is to create a safe and inclusive environment within the nursing community, where all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feel supported, respected, and empowered. Through education, advocacy, and compassionate care, we strive to promote health equity and eliminate discrimination against LGBTQ+ patients, colleagues, and communities. 

Queer Educators of MSU: We meet monthly to discuss LGBTQ news, current events impacting queer educators, and to provide a safe space for future queer educators and their co-conspirators. Come join us! 

Triangle Bar AssociationThe purpose of MSULTBA is to promote a positive and accepting atmosphere at Michigan State University College of Law for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and queer students and their allies. The objective of MSULTBA is to educate the community-at-large about the issues and concerns specific to the LGBTQIA+ community and to help alleviate and eradicate homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, and other affronts to the dignity of individual human beings. MSULTBA also seeks to promote strong ties between the organization and other student organizations through outreach and community-building activities, including reaching out to other racial minority, religious, and social student organizations to collaborate on bringing awareness and acceptance for all students at MSU College of Law. 

Medical Student Pride Alliance: MSU-CHM MSPA is established for the expressed purpose of increasing the competency and confidence of medical students, healthcare professionals, and faculty in serving LGBTQIA+ patient populations. Through campus involvement, workshops, and community outreach, our mission is to improve the health of LGBTQIA+ patient populations and to take steps to acknowledge and address the injustices that contribute to health disparities in marginalized communities, specifically POC and trans folks. We believe it is important to center POC and trans folks in the work of the organization because of the way that intersectionality impacts people who belong to multiple minority groups. 

Spartan Pride and Allyship (Broad College of Business): Spartan Pride builds relationships between the Eli Broad College of Business student populations, faculty, staff, alumni, and corporations that are focused on LGBTQ+ awareness. Furthermore, we provide professional networking opportunities, promote a safe and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff, and facilitate professional development focused on the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals in Business. 

The MSU School of Social Work LGBTQ+ Student Group is a student-run organization for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer SSW students and their allies at the BASW, MSW, and PhD level. Students participate in social, educational, and advocacy activities based on members’ interests. 

Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) is a national organization dedicated to empowering marginalized people in Natural Resources, Sciences, and the Environment. We meet biweekly to foster community between marginalized undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and professionals.The national society consists of more than 55 chapters located at various colleges and universities throughout the United States. Individual chapter activities, regional events and the annual national conference are designed to develop a Partnership between students in agriculture, natural resources and professionals from academic institutions, government agencies, and private industry. MANRRS establishes partnerships by promoting professional development, networking, and career placement in a nurturing environment. Membership into the National Society is open to people of all racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds who support the objectives of diverse and inclusive participation and achievement in agriculture and related sciences careers. 

Student Pride Veterinary Medical Community: The purpose of this organization shall be to form a strong community of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals as well as to create an inclusive and diverse community within the veterinary medical community. Any MSU veterinary student, veterinary nursing student, and graduate student may be a member. 

Students for Cultivating Change: The Students for Cultivating Change provides a safe and inclusive network for students interested in agricultural and natural resources who are in the LGBTQ+ community or are an ally. Focusing our efforts on education, community, and increasing awareness, we also strive to promote inclusion and visibility for LGBTQ+ individuals within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and larger MSU community. 

Residence Hall Caucuses

Each of the MSU Neighborhoods are entitled to a residential caucus dedicated to celebrating LGBT identity. The residence hall groups primarily focus on providing a safe space for personal and social support and furthering education on the LGBT communities. Some groups have their own personal meeting room while others meet in various locations around the neighborhood. Funding for each group comes from the Residence Hall Association (RHA). dedicated to LGBT students. RHA also funds a fifth caucus, transcend: 

transcend aims to provide an affirming social and educational environment that centers the transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming communities on campus while taking action toward the improvement of the lives of these communities. transcend's primary resource is its transcend Office, jointly shared with their sibling organization TransAction, in which they offer free gender-affirming clothing, materials (binders, bras, etc.) and much more. The office is typically open two days a week or by appointment.
